Photo Phriday: Leaving Childhood Behind

Unintentionally emotional and symbolic, this photo of my son during our recent trip to Dauphin Island, Alabama, brought me to a halt as I was uploading and archiving the photos from that trip. He is on the bridge between childhood and adolescence, and this year\’s transition into middle school has been an adjustment for all of us. So when I saw this picture, I remarked how like this time in life it is: the toys of childhood, only recently used, tossed aside to wade off – bravely yet trepidatiously – into the unknown ocean of adventures that lie ahead.
